Summary:

The work schedule for this position is:


  • Full Time (40 hours per week)


Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time (four weeks) of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Supervisory Position: No Relocation Expenses Reimbursed: No Travel Required: Occasional Travel

May require occasional local, domestic, or international travel. Must be able to pass national security checks to enter TNI facilities.

Duties

Provides Indonesian and English translation and interpretation services to the Senior Defense Official/Defense Attache (SDO/DATT) and the Defense Attache Office (DAO), including near-simultaneous verbal translation and all written correspondence between the Indonesian and U.S. military from the DAO. Also advises the DAO on Indonesia military protocol, customs, courtesies, and cultural/social norms, especially for Distinguished Visitor (DV)/ Very Very Important Person (VVIP) visits between high-level defense officials. Must possess professionalism and comfort to translate at the Minister of Defense and Chief of Defense level; previous knowledge or experience with the military is highly valued due to the specific nature of DAO operations and requirements. Assists in administrative tasks, diplomatic clearances, and basic office functions as needed. Supervises up to five (5) Locally Employee Staff members in DAO operations support.


Qualifications and Evaluations Requirements:

EXPERIENCE: Minimum four years of clerical or secretarial work with English translation experience.

JOB KNOWLEDGE:


Good reading comprehension, good speaking diction and listening keenness, social perceptiveness, speech recognition and clarity, oral expression and comprehension, written comprehension and expression, auditory ability to focus on a single source of sound in the presence of other distracting sounds, and have hearing sensitivity to detect varying pitches, tones, and loudness. Must be able to maintain the confidentiality of the translated/interpreted material. Comprehensive knowledge of TNI military structure and protocol is required. Mandatory to have professional level knowledge of English and Bahasa Indonesia.

Education Requirements:

Mandatory:


Minimum Bachelor’s Degree or four years of university-level studies, with emphasis on English language, Political Science or Government, International Relations, History, Economics, or Communications.


Evaluations:

LANGUAGE: Fluency in writing/reading/speaking in English and fluency in writing/reading/speaking in Bahasa Indonesia are required. This may be tested.

Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission to Indonesia and U.S. Mission to ASEAN may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.


For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.


The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
